Welcoming Winter in Switzerland

December is all about welcoming winter in Switzerland ❄

Slow mornings, fairy lights and Christmas markets are a hallmark of winter in Switzerland. We've had a lot of snow this year - so it's like living in a winter wonderland!

The first snowfall

I awoke very early in the morning to our first snowfall of the season. You can tell it’s snowed even before you look outside. Somehow all the sounds have been dimmed.

Swinging out of bed and walking swiftly on the balls of my feet, I went to the kitchen window. Sure enough, a beautiful, thick layer of fresh snow silted the streets. It was magical!

Christmas markets

During December, Christmas markets pop up all over the country. Whether it’s a bustling city or a quiet mountain village, they all put up a wonderful Christmas feast.

And they sell everything, from candles to crystals, glühwein, olives, jams, clothing, and of course, anything with cheese!
